The picture you see above is a pre release blackberry code named “Essex” which is also referred to as the “Tour 2″ and has recently been tagged with the device number 9650. So im going to start with the Tour 9630 since the Essex is the successor to the tour, so bare with me here. Being a Tour owner myself i find it ridiculous that a large majority of tour owners who either just recently received the blackberry tour or like myself purchased the tour back in July when it was first released already have a phone that has seemed to have lost its place in the cdma blackberry family. The issue is that obviously the tour was rushed to cdma carriers Sprint and Verizon because their GSM carrier counterparts had more up to date blackberrys with much more to offer with better processors, graphics, and flash memory with blackberry models such as the curve 8900 and bold 9000, which are much better devices than the seasoned curve 8330 which at the time was the most current blackberry available on the cdma carriers. As a result of these devices being rushed(in my opinion) to fill a void, there were countless trackball problems and still to this day numerous issues regarding the trackball within the tour 9630 which leaves tour owners on their 3rd 4th even for some 6th device!(and if you think i’m exaggerating check the blackberry forums and see for yourself this is no joke im on my 3rd so im a real testimonial here). Moreover, I will simply cut to the chase here, my issue is that myself and many other tour owners feel as though we’ve drawn the short straw in this situation in which we bought a phone which has no Wifi and have had multiple trackball issues, and barely 5 months into the release of the tour we had already heard about the replacement and as any of uf with common sense know, the carriers are not going to compensate us, no matter how many phones you’ve gotten replaced etc… So there will more than likely not be any sympathy for the tour owners, so the only way to go about getting the new Essex would be to use someone elses upgrade or buy it out right(LOL).

Features of the Essex that the tour doesn’t have are as follows:

    * Wifi
    * trackpad and 2gb of onboard memory which is a nice addition

…Yes you read right…. thats it, repackaged tour, same processor, same 3.2 megapixel camera…same resolution…. same dimensions……..those two features are the only features that make the Essex different from the tour…
